SARAO/UWC SCIENCE OPERATIONS POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

SARAO and UWC are offering an exciting postdoctoral opportunity for a researcher interested ingaining experience in the science operations of the MeerKAT telescope. In this role, the successful candidates will support MeerKAT telescope operations, its users, and havethe opportunity to carry out their own research (up to 50 %). The SKA precursor MeerKAT is a …

On the existence of a tight planar relation between stellar specific angular momentum, mass and effective surface brightness for ALFALFA galaxies

Measurements of the dependence of stellar specific angular momentum (j∗) on stellar mass (M∗) are presented for large samples of ALFALFA galaxies spanning the stellar mass range ∼108-1011 M⊙. Accurate estimates of j∗ are generated using measurements of I-band effective radius and velocity width of the HI line profile. While the full sample (N=3 607) of galaxies yields a j∗-M∗ relation with power-law index α=0.404±0.03, …

MIGHTEE: multi-wavelength counterparts in the COSMOS field

In this paper we combine the Early Science radio continuum data from the MeerKAT International GHz Tiered Extragalactic Exploration (MIGHTEE) Survey, with optical and near-infrared data and release the cross-matched catalogues. The radio data used in this work covers 0.86 deg2 of the COSMOS field, reaches a thermal noise of 1.7 μJy/beam and contains 6102 radio components. We visually inspect and cross-match …

Euclid: The search for primordial features

Primordial features, in particular oscillatory signals, imprinted in the primordial power spectrum of density perturbations represent a clear window of opportunity for detecting new physics at high-energy scales. Future spectroscopic and photometric measurements from the Euclid space mission will provide unique constraints on the primordial power spectrum, thanks to the redshift coverage and high-accuracy measurement of nonlinear …
