HONOURS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2024 CENTRE FOR RADIO COSMOLOGY UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPE DEADLINE: 16 October 2023

The Centre for Radio Cosmology (CRC) in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at UWC is
internationally recognised for its research in cosmology and galaxy evolution with MeerKAT, the
Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and other telescopes (see astro.uwc.ac.za for further details).


In 2023, the CRC research team includes 24 PhD/ MSc students and 11 postdoctoral fellows.
Postgraduate students at the CRC work in a friendly and highly active research environment,
with support from postdoctoral researchers.


In 2024 a new BSc (Hons) in Astronomy is being launched at UWC. Honours students will do a
research mini-project in Astrophysics & Cosmology, together with courses on Computational
Physics, Astrophysics & Cosmology and other topics.

Preference will be given to students who fit into the demographic guidelines provided by the
NRF and SARAO (South African Radio Astronomy Observatory).

Applicants should be South African citizens or permanent residents and must have at least
65% for their BSc degree. Please check NRF rules for further eligibility requirements.

The 2024 NRF level for Full Cost of Study is R157,125 + laptop grant (R10k)
